Apple’s most ambitious retail project sits on the waters of Marina Bay
Singapore — Apple today previewed Apple Marina Bay Sands, the first Apple Store to sit directly on the water. Appearing as a sphere floating on the iridescent Marina Bay, the store introduces a new and captivating retail experience at one of the most iconic locations in Singapore.
Entirely surrounded by water, Apple Marina Bay Sands offers uninterrupted 360-degree panoramic views of the city and its spectacular skyline. The sphere is a first-of-its-kind, all-glass dome structure that is fully self-supported, comprised of 114 pieces of glass with only 10 narrow vertical mullions for structural connection. As Apple’s third retail location in Singapore, the new store creates an unforgettable space for customers.
Inspired by the Pantheon in Rome, an oculus located at the apex of the dome provides a flooding ray of light that travels through the space. The interior of the glass is lined with custom baffles, each uniquely shaped to counter sun angles and provide a nighttime lighting effect. With trees lining the interior of the dome, the green garden city of Singapore flows into the store, providing additional shading and soft shadows through the foliage.
“We couldn’t be more excited to open the breathtaking Apple Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, building on our commitment to this special place that began more than 40 years ago,” said Deirdre O’Brien, Apple’s senior vice president of Retail + People. “Our passionate and talented team is ready to welcome this community to our new store and deliver the care and support that our customers around the world love.”
Visitors entering the store encounter a dramatic reveal into the massive volume of the dome, where they can explore curated Apple products and accessories, receive personal technical support from Geniuses, or simply take in the stunning view of Marina Bay. The Forum is centered around a Video Wall, which will serve as the stage for Today at Apple sessions featuring Singapore’s artists, musicians, and creators. Entrepreneurs and developers interested in receiving training and advice can meet with Apple team members in Apple’s first underwater Boardroom, located on the lower level of the store.
Apple’s rich history in Singapore spans more than 40 years, beginning with the first corporate office in Ang Mo Kio. In 1981, the team was responsible for producing the majority of printed circuit boards for Apple II computers worldwide. Since then, Apple has expanded its corporate and retail presence, and now supports over 55,000 jobs across the entire Apple ecosystem.
The 148-person team at Apple Marina Bay Sands, who collectively speak over 23 languages, will welcome visitors for the first time on Thursday, September 10 at 10 a.m. SGT. The store will implement the same rigorous health measures for both employees and visitors seen across all Apple Store locations, including a mask requirement, temperature checks, and social distancing.
To ensure the health and well-being of guests, visits to Apple Marina Bay Sands on Thursday will be by appointment only. Customers can visit apple.com/sg/marinabaysands to choose from available times, and each non-transferable reservation admits one person. Capacity will be limited, so guests may experience wait times before entering the store.

And with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang on Tuesday unveiling the new GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs, it’s delivering NVIDIA’s “greatest generational leap in company history.”
The GeForce RTX 30 Series, NVIDIA’s second-generation RTX GPUs, deliver up to 2x the performance and 1.9x the power efficiency over previous-generation GPUs.
“If the last 20 years was amazing, the next 20 will seem like nothing short of science fiction,” Huang said, speaking from the kitchen of his Silicon Valley home. Today’s NVIDIA Ampere launch is “a giant step into the future,” he added.
In addition to the trio of new GPUs — the flagship GeForce RTX 3080, the GeForce RTX 3070 and the “ferocious” GeForce RTX 3090 — Huang introduced a slate of new tools for GeForce gamers.
A pair of demos tell the tale. In May, we released a demo called Marbles — featuring the world’s first fully path-traced photorealistic real-time graphics.
Chock-full of reflections, textures and light sources, the demo is basically a movie that’s rendered in real time as a marble rolls through an elaborate workshop rich with different materials and textures. It’s a stunningly realistic environment.
In May, Huang showed Marbles running on our top-end Turing architecture-based Quadro RTX 8000 graphics card at 25 frames per second at 720p resolution. An enhanced version of the demo, Marbles at Night, running on NVIDIA Ampere, runs at 30 fps at 1440p.
More telling is a demo that can’t be shown remotely — gameplay running at 60 fps on an 8K LG OLED TV — because video-streaming services don’t support that level of quality.
The GeForce RTX 3090 is the world’s first GPU able to play blockbuster games at 60 fps in 8K resolution, which is 4x the pixels of 4K and 16x the pixels of 1080p.
We showed it to a group of veteran streamers in person to get their reactions as they played through some of latest games.
“You can see wear and tear on the treads,” one said, tilting his head to the side and eyeing the screen in amazement.
“This feels like a Disneyland experience,” another added.
The result was 2.8 exaflops of computing power, 5x the processing power of the world’s largest supercomputer, Huang said, capturing the moment the virus infects a human cell.
“Thank you all for joining this historic fight,” Huang said.
RTX a “Home Run”
For 40 years, since NVIDIA researcher Turner Whitted published his groundbreaking paper on ray tracing, computer science researchers have chased the dream of creating super-realistic virtual worlds with real-time ray tracing, Huang said.
Based on NVIDIA’s Turing architecture, it combined programmable shaders, RT Cores to accelerate ray-triangle and ray-bounding-box intersections, and the Tensor Core AI processing pipeline.
“Now, two years later, it is clear we have reinvented computer graphics,” Huang said, citing support from all major 3D APIs, tools and game engines, noting that hundreds of RTX-enabled games are now in development. “RTX is a home run,” he said.
Just ask your kids, if you can tear them away from their favorite games for a moment.
Fortnite, from Epic Games, is the latest global sensation to turn on NVIDIA RTX real-time ray-tracing technology, Huang announced.
Now Minecraft and Fortnite, two of the most popular games in the world, have RTX On.
No kid will miss the significance of these announcements.
A Giant Leap in Performance
The NVIDIA Ampere architecture, the second generation of RTX GPUs, “is a giant leap in performance,” Huang said.
Built on a custom 8N manufacturing process, the flagship GeForce RTX 3080 has 28 billion transistors. It connects to Micron’s new GDDR6X memory — the fastest graphics memory ever made.
“The days of just relying on transistor performance scaling is over,” Huang said.
GeForce RTX 3080: The New Flagship
Starting at $699, the RTX 3080 is the perfect mix of fast performance and cutting-edge capabilities, leading Huang to declare it NVIDIA’s “new flagship GPU.”
Designed for 4K gaming, the RTX 3080 features high-speed GDDR6X memory running at 19Gbps, resulting in performance that outpaces the RTX 2080 Ti by a wide margin.
It’s up to 2X faster than the original RTX 2080. It consistently delivers more than 60 fps at 4K resolution — with RTX ON.
GeForce RTX 3070: The Sweet Spot
Making more power available to more people is the RTX 3070, starting at $499.
And it’s faster than the $1,200 GeForce RTX 2080 Ti — at less than half the price.
The RTX 3070 hits the sweet spot of performance for games running with eye candy turned up.
GeForce RTX 3090: A Big, Ferocious GPU
At the apex of the lineup is the RTX 3090. It’s the fastest GPU ever built for gaming and creative types and is designed to power next-generation content at 8K resolution.
“There is clearly a need for a giant GPU that is available all over the world,” Huang said. “So, we made a giant Ampere.”
And the RTX 3090 is a giant of a GPU. Its Herculean 24GB of GDDR6X memory running at 19.5Gbps can tackle the most challenging AI algorithms and feed massive data-hungry workloads for true 8K gaming.
“RTX 3090 is a beast — a big ferocious GPU,” Huang said. “A BFGPU.”
At 4K it’s up to 50 percent faster than the TITAN RTX before it.
It even comes with silencer — a three-slot, dual-axial, flow-through design — up to 10x quieter and keeps the GPU up to 30 degrees C cooler than the TITAN RTX.
“The 3090 is so big that for the very first time, we can play games at 60 frames per second in 8K,” Huang said. “This is insane.”
Faster Reflexes with NVIDIA Reflex
For the 75 percent of GeForce gamers who play esports, Huang announced the release of this month of NVIDIA Reflex with our Game Ready Driver.
In Valorant, a fast-paced action game, for example, Huang showed a scenario where an opponent, traveling at 1,500 pixels per second, is only visible for 180 milliseconds.
But a typical gamer has a reaction time of 150 ms — from photon to action. “You can only hit the opponent if your PC adds less than 30 ms,” Huang explained.
Yet right now, most gamers have latencies greater than 30 ms — many up to 100 ms, Huang noted.
NVIDIA Reflex optimizes the rendering pipeline across CPU and GPU to reduce latency by up to 50 ms, he said.
“Over 100 million GeForce gamers will instantly become more competitive,” Huang said.
Turn Any Room into a Broadcast Studio
For live streamers, Huang announced NVIDIA Broadcast. It transforms standard webcams and microphones into smart devices to turn “any room into a broadcast studio,” Huang said.
It does this with effects like Audio Noise Removal, Virtual Background Effects — whether for graphics or video — and Webcam Auto Framing, giving you a virtual cameraperson.
NVIDIA Broadcast runs AI algorithms trained by deep learning on NVIDIA’s DGX supercomputer — one of the world’s most potent.
“These AI effects are amazing,” Huang said.
NVIDIA Broadcast will be available for download in September and runs on any RTX GPU, Huang said.
With Omniverse Machinima, creators can use their webcam to drive an AI-based pose-estimator to animate characters. Drive face animation AI with your voice. Add high-fidelity physics like particles and fluids. Make materials physically accurate.
When done with your composition and mixing, you can even render film-quality cinematics with your RTX GPU, Huang said.
The beta will be available in October. Sign up at nvidia.com/machinima.
Nothing Short of Science Fiction
Wrapping up, Huang noted that it’s been 20 years since the NVIDIA GPU introduced programmable shading. “The GPU revolutionized modern computer graphics,” Huang said.
Now the second-generation NVIDIA RTX — fusing programmable shading, ray tracing and AI — gives us photorealistic graphics and the highest frame rates simultaneously, Huang said.
“I can’t wait to go forward 20 years to see what RTX started,” Huang said.
“In this future, GeForce is your holodeck, your lightspeed starship, your time machine,” Huang said. “In this future, we will look back and realize that it started here.”

The ability to have a channel conversation about a list item (see below for more details).
All user actions on the list are audited and available in the Security and compliance center audit logging.
How do I get started?
To get started, simply go to any channel where you would like to start tracking a list and hit the “+” button to explore the tab gallery and select the Lists app. Once the tab is added you can either create a new list or bring in an existing list (from another team or an older SharePoint site, but not a personal list from Lists home) into the channel as a new tab.
Create a new list inside Teams with conversations side-by-side. The above shows using the Asset manager template.
The Lists app in Teams includes 3 new industry-specific templates – Patients, Loans and Incidents. Team members start managing and tracking these key entities. Here are some examples of how these templates can be leveraged.
Create a new list from within Microsoft Teams and choose from numerous ready-made templates, including the new industry-specific ones.
Healthcare organizations can use the Lists app in Teams to support patient rounding, multi-discplinary huddles and discharge planning. The Patients template is an easy way for all health teams to track patient progress and keep in touch with their peers. If you have questions about storage of PHI in Teams, Lists, or Office 365, please see more documentation here.
Government agencies can use the Lists app in Teams to track incidents and coordinated incident response. The Incidents template helps people quickly setup a list and get started.
Loan officers at a morgtage broker or bank can use the Lists app to track a set of loans and informally collaborate on advancing a them to approval. The Loans template helps them get started with plenty of scope for further customization.
How do I start a conversation alongside a list item?
Once you have configured the tab and have a list with list items, you can start a conversation about an individual list item. Go to the details view (or form) for the list item by clicking into the title field and then click on conversation to start a conversation about the list item on the channel. With this feature, you can collaborate with your team about the list item (your key business entities) and get work done, faster.
Since the conversation is a channel message in Teams, all the messaging features like @mentions, rich text, giphies, stickers, emojis, mentions, tagging, and attachments are available for use! The conversation shows up in the right rail for the list item and also on the channel for those who might not have viewed the list as yet.
You can chat side-by-side individual list items within Teams.
See more about getting started with the Lists app in Teams “Create a list in Microsoft Teams” click-thru demo. And do not forget to try the Lists app experience in the Teams mobile app to track your lists within Teams on the go. Just go to your Teams android or iOS mobile apps and go to the channel where you have added the Lists app and click on more and tap on the tab name to open up the list.

Apple expands renewable energy footprint in Europe
World’s largest onshore wind turbines in Denmark and new clean energy efforts in Germany advance Apple’s new 2030 carbon neutral goal
Today Apple announced it will invest in the construction of two of the world’s largest onshore wind turbines, a source of clean, renewable energy that will bring its supply chain and products one step closer to carbon neutrality. Located near the Danish town of Esbjerg, the 200-meter-tall turbines are expected to produce 62 gigawatt hours each year — enough to power almost 20,000 homes — and will act as a test site for powerful offshore wind turbines. The power produced at Esbjerg will support Apple’s data center in Viborg, with all surplus energy going into the Danish grid.
“Combatting climate change demands urgent action and global partnership — and the Viborg data center is powerful proof that we can rise to this generational challenge,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives. “Investments in clean energy deliver breakthrough innovations that bring clean energy and good jobs to businesses and local communities. This is an area where we have to lead — for the sake of our planet and future generations.”
Last month, Apple announced its plans to become carbon neutral across its entire business, manufacturing supply chain, and product life cycle by 2030. While Apple’s operations are already powered by 100 percent renewable energy and carbon neutral, this new commitment will mean that by 2030, every Apple device sold will have net zero climate impact. This includes transitioning all of its European-based suppliers to renewable power.
Supplier Clean Energy Progress
Germany-based supplier Varta committed this week to running its Apple production with 100 percent renewable power. Across Europe, Apple’s suppliers are working toward clean energy solutions for their Apple productions — including Henkel and tesa SE, also based in Germany, DSM Engineering Materials based in the Netherlands, STMicroelectronics based in Switzerland, and Solvay based in Belgium. These solutions include DSM’s wind power purchase agreement in the Netherlands and STMicroelectronics’s solar carport in Morocco. Companies like Solvay are now expanding their use of renewable energy to their broader operations after joining Apple’s Supplier Clean Energy Program five years ago.
Apple launched the program in October 2015 to help suppliers reduce their energy use and transition to 100 percent renewable electricity. Since its launch, 72 manufacturing partners in 17 different countries have committed to 100 percent renewable energy for Apple production. Once all of Apple’s supplier projects are completed, these commitments will avoid over 14.3 million metric tons of CO2e annually — the equivalent of taking more than 3 million cars off the road each year.
Viborg Data Center
Apple’s data center in Viborg, a 45,000-square-meter facility offering network support and data storage to its users across the region, is now operational. The data center helps power Apple’s App Store, Apple Music, iMessage, Siri, and other services in Europe that are run entirely on renewable energy from local projects.
The Esbjerg wind project follows the recent completion of one of Scandinavia’s largest solar arrays, located in Thisted, Northern Jutland, the first Danish solar project built without the use of public subsidies. The wind and solar projects both support Apple’s newly completed data center in Viborg, which is powered by 100 percent renewable energy. Apple is developing both projects in partnership with European Energy.
The Viborg data center had over 600 specialist workers on site each day during construction and included many Danish businesses supporting its development. It is now run by a team of data specialists, technicians, maintenance, and security staff, many of whom were recruited from the local area.
