Why Donald Trump Should Be Out of the Presidential Running

Here is an opinion article I wrote.

Donald Trump is a former president who has been impeached twice, arrested four times, and accused of countless scandals and crimes. He is also a potential candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, despite being banned from most social media platforms and facing multiple legal challenges. This is a dangerous and absurd situation that should not be tolerated by any American who cares about democracy, the rule of law, and the future of the country.

Trump’s presidency was marked by chaos, corruption, and incompetence. He lied constantly, attacked the media and his critics, undermined the institutions and norms of democracy, and mishandled the Covid-19 pandemic that killed more than 600,000 Americans. He also tried to subvert the will of the voters by spreading baseless claims of election fraud, pressuring state officials to overturn the results, and inciting a violent mob to storm the Capitol on January 6, 2021. For these actions, he was impeached by the House of Representatives for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress in 2019, and for incitement of insurrection in 20211.

Trump’s post-presidency has been no less scandalous and controversial. He has been arrested four times on various charges, including tax fraud, obstruction of justice, campaign finance violations, and inciting violence. He has also faced civil lawsuits from women who accuse him of sexual assault and defamation, as well as investigations into his business dealings and his ties to foreign entities. He has refused to cooperate with any of these legal processes, claiming that they are all part of a witch hunt against him2.

Trump’s supporters have remained loyal to him despite his many flaws and failures. They have embraced his conspiracy theories, defended his actions, and attacked his enemies. They have also signaled their willingness to support him as the Republican nominee in 2024, even if he is convicted in one of his criminal cases. This is a disturbing sign of how Trump has eroded the Republican Party’s principles and values, and how he has polarized and radicalized his base3.

Trump’s candidacy would be a disaster for the country and the world. He would pose a serious threat to the stability and security of the United States and its allies. He would undermine the credibility and legitimacy of the American democracy and its institutions. He would inflame the divisions and conflicts that plague the nation. He would also embolden the enemies and adversaries of the United States, who would exploit his weaknesses and unpredictability4.

Trump should be out of the presidential running for many reasons. He is unfit, unqualified, and unworthy of the highest office in the land. He is a menace to society and a danger to humanity. He is a disgrace to the history and legacy of the American presidency. He should be held accountable for his crimes and misdeeds, not rewarded with another chance to ruin the country5.
